Phytolutions GmbH (Ltd.) offers customised solutions for the use of phytoplankton from the ocean for the climate-effective recycling of carbon dioxide. Algae are particularly suitable for this, because compared to land plants, they have up to a twentyfold higher growth rate. Moreover, they can be cultivated independently from fresh water on industrial surfaces or dried out plots of land.
We develop and implement innovative procedures and technologies, so as to find different applications for algae. This includes new basic approaches to carbon dioxide fixation through micro algae, such as the clean-up of industrial pollution. Furthermore, we use algae as environmentally friendly sources of energy and valuable suppliers for products of modern industry. Besides chemicals, for example, this also includes the production of bio fuels for the automobile and aerospace industry. Moreover, the algae biomass can act as feed for aquacultures, an additive in the food industry or as building material in the construction materials industry. Phytolutions is the first spin-off of Jacobs University in Bremen.
The company operates its own photo bioreactors in which micro algae are produced, and has biological and chemical laboratories for the analysis and utilisation of the algae. Through close networking with national and international research institutions, we gain insight into the most cutting-edge research. We link sustainability with environmental awareness and the transfer of technology. In addition to orders for large industrial companies in the field of renewable energy and carbon dioxide reduction, new potentials for sustainable development in developing countries are being developed and implemented. With our research, services and products, we make an important contribution to European commission’s goal to supply approximately 20 percent of energy demand through renewable forms of energy by the year 2020.
’More than fuels’ summarises the Phytolutions model: our concepts enable micro algae to be the raw material for a comprehensive product range in the energy, nutrition and medicine markets.
